connector types
There are four types of plugs, two for AC (types 1 and 2) and two for DC (CHAdeMo and CCS).
Type 1
Type 1 is very common on American vehicles. It is a single phase connector capable of transmitting speeds up to 7.4kW. For use in Europe, the manufacturer offers a charging cable with both types of plugs.
Type 2
Type 2 is the standard used in European and Asian vehicles since 2018. It is a three-phase plug with a maximum power of 43 kW. In addition to the five standard connections for three-phase charging, the plug has two additional contact pins for communication between the car and the charging device.
CCS
CCS is a Type 2 version with two additional line contacts for fast charging stations. In this way, cars with CCS can be charged at AC sockets in the garage and at DC fast charging stations on the streets.
CHAdeMO
CHAdeMO is primarily found in Asian cars and is used for fast charging with direct current. CHAdeMO's main competitor is the more widespread CCS.
